A lie I told

It was a lie about Mysterious Ways in my last post. I really had intended to no longer watch it, but then yesterday there were TWO lovely episodes on that I simply had to watch, despite having seen them many times before.

As with all of my favourite TV shows in the past, I am attracted to characters that are cute together but will probably never be together. In other words, it doesn't actually matter what the show is about --- I just watch them because they're SO ROMANTIC. Not a lot of people watched shows like Psi Factor and Star Trek TNG and Mysterious Ways for the romance, I'd wager. But I did, and do, despite the fact that I know how the series end. I watched X-Files for the same reason, of course, and it paid off! :)

Anyway, I just wanted to thank the Jew for affirming Mysterious Ways. I receive a lot of flack from my dear husband who thinks the show is ridiculous. Which it is... and I love it.

Life update and recent discoveries

(On account of people finding lists so offensive, I will instead create a single paragraph containing short, unrelated sentences)

Paul is on staff at my church now. We're moving to a different apartment in July, and Paul is determined to get new furniture. I have purchased a violin, and can play several songs... badly. I think I only like the poem "The Raven" because I can hear James Earl Jones reading it in my head. Jer and Sarah are getting married. Paul's laptop doesn't have a "C". My cat gained 5 pounds in the span of one bag of expensive pet food. I recently conquered the stomach flu through Gravol and sheer will. I am rereading "Anna Karenin" by Leo Tolstoy. I miss my roommate Selinda. I am borrowing the entire Twin Peaks series on VHS in August from Connie. I don't have a work assignment at Beulah this year. I love my teens. Irving cleans their bathrooms everything 30 minutes. I've stopped watching "Mysterious Ways" because I've seen them all and it's no longer fun to watch the reruns. My favourite waitress Trisha moved back to Moncton, and I didn't get to say goodbye. I just remembered that Paul has yet to return his library book - Paul, return your library book.

Coincidences

A very wise television character once said, "If coincidences are just coincidences, why do they feel so contrived?" I once considered him hot, and thus agreed with everything he says. Now I just believe in the blessings of God.

Today I received a call from a friend who had left her lights on in her car. It was stranded in the visitor parking of the regional hospital, and she hadn't been able to reach anyone to help her. With her last quarter, she reached me, and off I went to pick her up.

On my way, it occurred to me to call my friend and peer mentor Megan, whom I'd left a message for on Monday but hadn't heard back from. So I called, and a strange woman answered and said Megan wasn't there. SHE'D HAD HER BABY! Well, there was much rejoicing! However, she said that Megan and Chris were on their way home from the hospital.

When I got there, I sent my friend back in to inquire at the front desk, and no, Megan had not yet been released. So, with my friend in tow, up I went to see the new mom and dad, and their beautiful new baby, Caleb Christopher Stephens.

The fact that the child has significantly more hair than my husband was troubling only for a second. When I left the room I was smiling so wide it hurt and trying not to cry from my joy: a young woman who has allowed me to share her life on such an intimate level for several years has brought a NEW life into the world... what a lucky kid to have such an incredible mom.
